September 1, 2014 – On Monday, the Pacers’ Luis Scola (Argentina) and Damjan Rudez (Croatia) were at it again. Both players were playing on a third consecutive day at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.
Scola and the Argentines squared off against the Philippines. In a game that was close throughout, Argentina finally put them away by a score of 85-81, to move to 2-1 in the group stage. Scola once again led all scorers with 19 points (7-of-12 FG), continuing his excellent tournament run.
Croatia, however, suffered its first defeat of the World Cup, falling to Senegal 77-75. Despite two fourth-quarter 3-pointers by newly-minted Pacers player Damjan Rudez — including one with just 2 seconds remaining on the clock to bring his team within two — Croatia could not hold off the Senegal team led by Minnesota forward Gorgui Dieng (27 points).
Both teams will get a break tomorrow, but will be back in action on Wednesday (9/3). Argentina will play Senegal at 11:30 AM EST, and Croatia will face Greece at 2 PM. Keep checking Pacers.com for all the latest news and updates.
