Vogel: Andrew Bynum ruled out for Round 1

Andrew Bynum was at practice on Thursday as the Pacers geared up for their first-round playoff matchup with the Atlanta Hawks. Bynum wore practice gear and had basketball shoes and socks on, but he sat on the team’s bench while his teammates practiced.

Afterwards, Pacers coach Frank Vogel ruled the 7-footer out for Round 1.

“Still a chance (he plays in the playoffs),” he said.

Bynum signed with the team on Feb. 1 for $1 million. He has since played in just two games — his last being on March 15th, where he scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 20 minutes up in Detroit. One week later, the team declared him “out indefinitely” due to continued soreness and swelling in his right knee.

“We’re hoping to play for quite some time still and the longer we’re able to play and hopefully advance, the better the odds become,” Vogel said.
