Vogel’s number retired, banner hung at Wildwood High School

Pacers coach Frank Vogel has come a long way since his days in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. And now after a special ceremony, his name will forever be on the walls of his high school. Monday night, Wildwood High School raised a banner with his name, sports, and retired basketball number (22) during a halftime ceremony.

With the Pacers in Los Angeles, Vogel could not attend.

Back in September, Vogel, 40, visited his alma mater and was presented with the banner. The 1991 graduate also donated $5,000 to the school’s scholarship fund, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

“This is very humbling,” Vogel said at the time.

“A lot of people doubted me. It was then I learned the value of persistence and not listening to those that doubt you.”

During his visit to Wildwood, which has an enrollment of about 300, Vogel also spoke to the students. Watch highlights of his message, which includes some Pacers talk, below:
