Pregame: Hawks — Hill, Stephenson, West and Granger All Out
The Pacers will be going with a makeshift lineup tonight with the Atlanta Hawks in town. George Hill (left groin strain) and Lance Stephenson (right hip-flexor strain) join David West and Danny Granger in street clothes.
“George’s is probably more serious than Lance’s,” Vogel said pregame. “He still has a good chance of playing on Wednesday [in Houston]. They’re more concerned with [Hill's] groin than they are with Lance’s hip.”
Those injuries have D.J. Augustin and Gerald Green joining Paul George, Tyler Hansbrough and Roy Hibbert in the starting lineup. Frank Vogel wanted to bring Orlando Johnson off the bench (for Gerald Green). Sam Young will backup Paul George and Ben Hansbrough will give Augustin a breather.
“We’ll still run our system. The play calls, obviously, will be more slanted towards Paul George and Roy Hibbert. We have other guys that can score the ball as well and you just have to try to take advantage of their strengths.”
Hill has fought injuries since training camp, all the way back in October. He sat out the entire preseason with a sore thumb, and has also dealt with a right hip pointer, right thigh contusion, bronchitis, and left shoulder contusion throughout the season.
Looking forward to the Pacers’ four-game road trip, Vogel said everyone is day-to-day. “I think there’s an outside chance that [West] could play Wednesday. Not 100 percent sure. Danny, as well. Those guys both could see action in Texas.”
As for Paul George’s injured left pinkie and ring finger that he injured “three or four games ago,” Vogel isn’t concerned. “They didn’t even tell me about it,” he said. “That’s how much the trainers are worried about it. I don’t even know about it.”
